2022 Trio is June 9th - June 11th

Thursday night- captains dinner and Calcutta

Friday- open fishes

Saturday - artificial fishes

This year’s entry fee will be $700 per team with a maximum of 5 team members. Each team will automatically have $100 of their entry applied to insurance of 25% of their team in Calcutta. Each team can purchase additional 25% insurance (50% total) for an additional $400.
Each team will only bring a maximum of 4 fish to the scales. One trout (17-23”), one redfish(20-28”), one flounder, and a redfish with the most spots.
Only 50 teams are allowed in each division, and teams may fish both divisions. The combined trio weight for team that enters both divisions will be crowned Trio Grand Champion.
Rules are being finalized and will be posted in the next couple days. Sponsorship letters will go out next week and be posted on our page as well. We will open live registration Monday, April 4th at 8am.
Sponsors with free teams will get to sign up a week early before live registration opens. We aren’t sure how fast the tournament will fill up so this might be something to consider.
We look forward to having the tournament back this year and good luck to all fishermen.

2021 Texas Trio Classic Update

On behalf of the entire Texas Trio Staff, it is with deep regret that I write to inform you that we are postponing the 14th annual installation of our tournament to June of 2022. Significant damage was sustained to the pavilion at the Matagorda Harbor from Hurricane Nicholas and will not be repaired in time to host our event. Despite our efforts to try and find alternatives that would allow us to continue our annual tradition, the logistics and budget to implement a contingency plan that delivers the same safe, fun, and positive environment our loyal fishermen, sponsors, and patrons have come to expect from us, is simply not feasible in such a short timeframe. Therefore, we’re left with no other option but to cancel our event for 2021.

We are very proud of what the Texas Trio Classic has accomplished over the years. Our mission when we started was simple – help families in our local community who have suffered the devastating effects of Cancer. Since that time, we’ve been successful in our mission and helped dozens of families and causes through your generous cash donations generated through our annual fishing tournament. In addition, our tournament has also served as a significant boom to the local economy of Matagorda due to the large volume of people that flock to our tournament that second week of June and shop local. It is not lost on us the impact that postponing this tournament will have both directly and indirectly on the community we love and serve; we aim to come back even stronger next year!

In 2022, the plan is to get back to our roots and once again hold the tournament the second week of June as we’ve done in years past. We’ll send notifications out in early 2022 about registration for this event, and also post updates on the Texas Trio Classic Website.

Thank you again for your understanding and, most of all, for your continued support these past 13 years.

See you next summer!

-TTC Staff

NOTE: All payments made to support the 2021 Texas Trio Classic will be refunded. Charges made by card will be refunded back to the card used to make that payment. If you paid by check or cash, we will be in contact with you to discuss options.

2021 Tournament Sponsors!

Dear Friends,

The growth of this Tournament is amazing! We started in 2008 with 19 teams and a dream. Last year’s 13th annual event brought challenges with COVID-19, but we still had a successful event.

Since 2008, The Trio has donated over $175,000 to many local charities including the Matagorda Wellness Center, American Cancer Society (Matagorda County Branch), The Boys and Girls Club of Bay City, various non-profit organizations, as well as people in and around Matagorda County. The Trio has also hosted Wounded Warriors on several occasions.

Because of your support, The Trio is one of the largest and most successful bay fishing tournaments on the Texas Gulf Coast. With new goals in 2021 and celebrating 14 years, we do not plan on slowing down anytime soon.

We greatly appreciate your previous sponsorships and raffle item donations to the Texas Trio Classic Fishing Tournament and look forward to your continued support in 2021.

“The Texas Trio Classic has two simple goals. Fish For A Cure and host the best inshore fishing tournament in the state”. Your generosity helps the tournament reach its two simple goals. Thank you for making a difference!

This year's tournament will be held October 21st-23rd. Captains meeting and dinner will be Thursday the 21st, Open Division fishes Friday the 22nd, and Artificial Division fishes Saturday the 23rd.

Teams can enter both divisions.

1. This year's tournament will be a live fish weigh-in. Each team will bring up to 3 live fish to the scales (one trout, one redfish, and one flounder.) Dead fish will be allowed to be brought to the scales but will incur a 1/2 pound penalty for each fish not alive.

2. The Trio will pay top 3 places for heaviest trout, redfish, and flounder.

3.The tournament will be limited to the first 75 teams in each division.

4. This year's entry fee will be $1550 per team, and each team can have up to 5 team members. $1000 of your team entry will go to a Calcutta pot and be paid out 100% to five places. The Calcutta pot will consist of a trio (one trout, one redfish, and one flounder). Payout will be based as follows:

1st place- 50%

2nd place- 20%

3rd place- $11,250

4th place- $7,500

Bonus money will be given to the top finishing teams with combined trio weight (trout, red, flounder) for the two days. For teams to be eligible for the bonus money, teams that enter both divisions must have the same team members fishing both days. Bonus money will pay two places:

Over the next couple of months, we will be working on the final set of rules. Online entry will begin on August 15, 2021. We look forward to another great year, and don't hesitate to contact a tournament director with any questions. Thanks to all who fish and all of our sponsors who make us what we are.

2020 Tournament Process Changes

Fishers and Patrons of the Texas Trio Classic,

It’s hard to believe it’s October already and our tournament is fast approaching! All of us here at the TTC are excited to see everyone and to continue our tradition of hosting this tournament for great causes in and around our community. This year we’ve had to make a few changes to the schedule and regular events to ensure the health and safety of all in attendance. In addition to the bullet points below, we encourage everyone to protect yourselves and respect the health of others at all times by maintaining appropriate social distancing guidelines.

Patrons:

  • This year we will not be hosting the Thursday night dinner during check-in.

  • There will be no live auction, however, tournament merchandise will still be available for purchase during the weigh-ins

  • On Friday Lazy R BBQ will be serving and on Saturday we’ll have Come and Taste It BBQ - so make sure you come hungry and support these two great local businesses!

  • Both weigh-ins on Friday and Saturday will be open to the public

  • The award ceremony will be Saturday immediately following the Open division weigh-in, and is open to the public

Fishers:

  • Artificial fishes on Friday and Open fishes on Saturday

  • Check-in will be Thursday night (October 22nd) at the Pavilion from 5 PM to 7 PM. Only one member from each team is required, but ALL TEAMS must check-in during this time to receive your tournament packet.

  • Since Artificial and Open are fishing on separate days, we will be releasing boats from the harbor starting at 7 AM on the day your division fishes. As in years past, you will still be released in order according to your team number, and your entire team must be present with ID’s to sign in prior to your boat being released.

  • Weigh-in is from 3 PM to 4:30 PM. You must be in line by 4:30 PM with your fish to weigh-in.

  • Lie Detector Tests will be administered both days for those teams who place.
    IMPORTANT:
Friday teams who place must not leave before having their lie detector test administered. After your lie detector test, you are free to leave.

  • Awards for both the Artificial and Open divisions will be held after weigh-in on Saturday

Quick Notes for Captains:

  • Someone from your team must pick up the tournament packet between 5 PM and 7 PM on Thursday, October 22nd

  • Your entire team must be present with ID’s in the Harbor to sign-in starting at 7 AM on the day of your tournament

  • Weigh-in is from 3 PM to 4:30 PM both days and you must be in line with your fish by 4:30 to weigh-in

  • Lie detector tests will be required for teams who place and will be administered both days. DO NOT LEAVE THE HARBOR if you place in either tournament before you have had your lie detector test.

  • The award ceremony is Saturday after the weigh-in

Thanks, everyone, and we look forward to hosting you at the Texas Trio Classic!
